Locals call it leaf peeping, but I'll stick with leafing. We are not always in Colorado for the fall colors, but this year we got a couple of chances to see some aspen gold. There's no accurate forecast of when and where to find the best color. The progression is from upper elevation to lower, and from north to south. Aspens don't naturally grow below about 8,000 feet, but residents have planted them in Colorado Spring--one to two thousand feet below that. Most of the Springs aspens never turned gold this year. The rain and weather does that sometimes. This year, most of the aspen leaves just wore out and fell off. Up the hill, however, was another matter...
