Shelly's Scare

Wow! Shelly and I had a few crazy days. Here's the short version. I'll try not to repeat too much that went around in the prayer requests from Paraclete and our home group.  Sorry for the delay in getting this on the blog.  Life has been very full.

Shelly went up to Denver for a Women of the Harvest team meeting on Wednesday, 3/21 and stayed overnight with her friends, Ruth and David Craig. Thursday morning while having coffee with Ruth she slumped over and passed out. When she came to, about seven minutes later, she was slurring her speech and barely awake. Ruth and David were concerned about a possible stroke so they called me and we agreed that they would take her to the closest hospital. The head of the ER at Littleton Adventist is a family friend of the Craigs and a believer. He gave Shelly great care.

Shelly was not "all there" for most of the morning, but she was improving over time. During the next day and a half, when she wasn't enjoying the view out her window, she had a CAT scan, MRI, EEG, blood work and an Echo Cardiogram. The tests did not reveal anything that would explain what happened, but two issues turned up that we are following up on. Shelly has a 50% blockage in her left middle cerebral artery. She needs to lower her (already good) cholesterol level and stay on an aspirin regimen to lower her risk of stroke. The cardiologist also saw a possible atrial fibrillation that needs to be checked out.

She has been resting all week. She is doing well, and has more energy every day. Thanks for your continued prayer as we walk this new road.  We feel blessed that Shelly has not experienced any lasting harm. We are praying and talking a lot about what adjustments we need to make in her schedule in light of what has happened.
