The Goose Creek Trail that we hiked starts in a section of the Hayman burn area and quickly moves down along the creek and beyond that was spared in the 2002 fire (largest fie in Colorado history). The area's geology is fascinating, filled with enormous boulders that have worn away from large cliffs of conglomerate rock over the ages. In some places the huge boulders have covered the creek, hence the name "Lost Creek Wilderness." One of the most interesting features is where the water resurfaces as a full-fledged creek.
